eBay gets this partly right by telling me “You have no messages” versus leaving this area empty and me wondering what’s going on.

Let’s go a little further and remove the now-unnecessary sorting and browsing controls.

Small change, but it lets me ignore this section more quickly by reducing processing overhead for form controls that do nothing.
